Garage Door Panel Replacement in Topeka, KS

Backed into the door, took a baseball through the second panel, or watched golf-ball hail dent every section last spring? Sometimes you can replace a single panel and save the rest of the door. Sometimes you can't. The honest answer depends on the door's age and whether the manufacturer still makes the panel.

When single-panel replacement makes sense

If your door is under 8 years old, the manufacturer is still making your specific panel design and color, and only one or two sections are damaged, single-panel replacement is the right request a free quote. Expect $300–$700 per panel installed depending on the door style and whether the panel is insulated.

Damage almost always concentrates on the bottom one or two panels — that's what bumpers, lawnmowers, and skateboards hit. Top panels rarely need replacement unless wind or hail is involved.

When you should replace the whole door

Doors older than 12 years are usually past the point where matching panels are still in production. Even within the same brand, embossing patterns and color formulations change every few years. A new panel will be visibly different against weathered originals, and the value of matching often beats the savings on partial replacement.

If three or more panels are damaged, panel cost plus labor typically exceeds 60–70% of a new door install — at that point a new door makes more sense and you get fresh hardware, springs sized to the new door's weight, and a full warranty.

If the damage broke the door off the tracks, bent the rails, or impacted both vertical tracks, the door frame work alone often costs more than starting over.

Color matching on weathered doors

Even when the same panel and color is still available, a 6-year-old door has faded under Kansas sun. Almond goes ivory. Sandstone shifts to a yellow-pink. White gets chalky. We can either accept the slight mismatch (often acceptable on the lower panel where it's less visible from the street) or paint the new panel to match — adds $80–$150.

If color match matters and the door is past 8 years, full replacement usually delivers a better result.

Common causes we see in Topeka

Number one by a wide margin: backed into the closed door. Usually the bottom panel and sometimes the section immediately above it. Number two: hail damage from spring storms — Topeka took several severe hail events in the last few years, and steel panels with shallow embossing show hail dents badly even when the door still operates fine. Number three: wind — straight-line winds during summer storms have folded plenty of doors inward when the door was open during the gust.
